P&P Highly Recommended (The First)

As an apology for not being around so often (lately and in the future), I offer you this post.

Most of the time I throw up new music pretty carelessly. I've thought about cutting back on the posts, and instead focusing on quality writing, reviews, and journalistic stories that involve research, wit, and effort. I always resort to short posts filled with nonsense and littered with profanity. Hope you like it!

Taste is a matter of opinion, so sometimes it's better to just give you as much as I can and let you decide what you want and what you don't. I try to focus on music that is either really good or really relevant (when a new Black Eyed Peas song comes out, I post it, burn it to a CD, pour Everclear and lighter fluid on it, and set it on fire while performing a ritualistic dance.) I don't like it, but I think it's worth checking out. I think this is best for music fiends like myself who want to get a little taste of everything that comes out, but I know it can be overwhelming for people who like to check out new music every now and then. If you come to P&P every week or so, it's probably a big headache trying to check everything you missed.

The "best of the week" post is convenient, but ends up being a really tedious task. At the end of the week, a lot of the "best" songs have been taken down, and the line between "best" and "most popular" gets really blurry to a blogger trying to balance quality and hits. So maybe this "best of" post is going to turn into something more like this.

This post is meant to give you some insight into what I'm listening to, what I like, and what I suggest. So burn that shit to a CD and call it Pigeon Shit. When I posted this, all the links were good. So get it fast, because I'm sure some of them will be deaded soon. Here we go.

Alexipharmic is a dope hip-hop artist with a story to tell, or should I say stories? Yea, stories!

On this album, *American Beauty*, he combines the stories of people in which he met while on a 30 state tour with his own personal experiences & creates something so powerful, something with so much depth. His choice of beats, slightly unorthodoxed flow & bright perspective is definitely refreshing to my ears. I always say that just because something is different does not mean it's good, but this is damn great!

This album is inspirational & sheds light on a lot of the dark areas in today's society, revealing the truth! The album also features the likes of P.O.S., Cas One, Grynch, Sarah Smalley & Braille.

Below I have included two of my choice cuts from the *American Beauty* album which I honestly picked randomly because each track is dope & has a great message behind it. During each listen I got something different from his lyrics; that's what I like to call a jewel/gem.

Marina and the Diamonds - I Am Not A Robot (The Shoes Remix)

The Shoes fuck around and turn Marina and the crew's "I Am Not A Robot" into an electro banger. Kind of weird; this remix makes me wanna dress up like the Tinman and do the robot, and Marina sure sounds like something mechanical. Give the song until at least before 1:30 before judging it. If you haven't checked out M and the D's yet, you should. She has an incredibly unique voice and the songs all give you something to really sink your teeth into. Thanks to Sheena Beaston.

Here is a track from Andrew Bird's new Fitz and the Dizzyspells release. I haven't heard the entire EP yet (I still haven't given Noble Beast as much attention as I intended to), but from what I read at IGIF, it includes a collection of songs from Noble Beast reworked by the Bird into more simplistic pieces. Here is "See The Enemy" which is a variation on "Anonanimal". Check it out.

I saw a video of Emily making this song a while ago; here's the mp3. I'm a sucker for covers of classic hip-hop songs by artists outside of the hip-hop genre, and she does a great job with this one, turning Biggie's uplifting song of victory into a haunting, sparsely decorated gem sounding like one of her own. DMX is a free man. I wasn't expecting much from this new song, but shit, I think DMX fans are gonna be happy. This beat is pretty hard, and although X is (supposedly) clean now, he hasn't lost that energy and wild style that makes you wonder "What the fuck is he on?"

Kind of sad that when you google DMX for images, 90% of them are either a mug shot, X in jail, or X in the middle of committing a crime. For X's sake, I hope he can keep his shit together and keep making some music like this. He sounds kinda nice over that screaming guitar huh? Check the interview from jail if you missed it.

If you missed, watch this to see what the apology is all about. So what do you think? Are Charles and his girl just trying to get some attention? Is she just trying to launch her own career? Or is this some real shit that just happened to be caught on camera? I don't know. Didn't look like Charles was anticipating that swing to me. Glad everything worked out though. Say what you will, but I think he handled it pretty well. Can you imagine if he Chris Browned his girl on camera??
