The Gossip - Are You That Somebody? (Aaliyah Cover)

So word on the street (web) is that this is an old cover, and one that The Gossip frequently covers during their shows. Ever wonder what it would sound like if an outspoken, overweight, feminist punk lesbian and her band covered Aaliyah and Timbaland's classic? Pretty fucking sick, if you ask me. Credit to Kickin' The Peanuts.

New! Franz Ferdinand - "No Your Girls" (Trentemøller Radio Edit)

Franz Ferdinand released the *Blood* LP last week & on iTunes it included 3 remixes of their last hit single, "No Your Girls". One of which included this version done by Trentemøller. Definitely digging this!

Video! Alysha Brillinger - "Let Me Love You"

Hilton shot me over this link a little earlier. Her name is Alysha Brillinger and she is rather dope! I checked out the video which I liked, and then decided to do more research. She is very talented. Be sure to check out the cuts on her myspace page as well as the other videos she has up on her YouTube page.

Master Shortie - "Dead End" (Don Diablo Knows You Like It Hard Remix)

This song snaked into my email 5 days ago, and I overlooked it since my inbox looks like your life on a Monday morning. One thing I'm still learning is to never ignore Don Diablo. Never. If he dishes out 5 remixes in one day, then you listen to those 5 remixes. Because chances are they are all going to be monsters.

Here he turns the forthcoming Master Shortie single "Dead End" into a club banger. Check the video for the original "Dead End" above, and the mp3 for the remix below. I know you like electro.

Damn, Kobe! Stop lookin' at my dick! Saw it at Rap Radar.

Music Video! The Gossip - Heavy Cross

Not sure how I feel about Beth Ditto, but I like this song. The Gossip's album Music For Men will be dropping June 22nd. The album was produced by the bearded bad ass Rick Rubin. Here is what Ditto said about the album:

There's a shit-load of love songs in there," she declared. "Writing down the tracklisting, we had about 14 songs and seven had the world 'love' in the title. I had no idea I was so romantic. via NME.

Let me spaz, let me spaz. 3 days without a computer and I'm bound to OD. Drizzy!

Fresh Daily - Hard Work (Flying Lotus)

If this bass doesn't scramble your internals, go get your gut checked. Excellent production by Flying Lotus. Fresh Daily is nice too, but shit, I can't stop focusing on this bass. So good. For me, Flying Lotus has always seemed like a more hyped, less consistent Madlib (this song reminds me of that "Figaro" beat from Madvillain), but I can't deny the man has moments of genius, and this is one of them.

Fresh Daily - Hard Work (Prod. Flying Lotus)

And in case you haven't heard it, here's "Figaro". It's one of my favorites from the classic MF DOOM/Madlib collabo Madvillain. Producers out there: can someone mash this shit up? DOOM's "Figaro" vocals over the Flying Lotus beat?

Madvillain - Figaro

New! Lil Wayne ft. Gucci Mane - "We Be Steady Mobbin"

This song is the shit! Definitely making it to the iPod. Production by Kane Beatz. So many good Wayne lines in here. Sometimes it's not what you say but how you say it. Examples given:

You can not reach my on my Samsung, I'm busy fuckin' the world and givin' the universe my damn tongue. Crazy motherfucker? I am one. But the crazy thing is, I began one.

Big house, long hallways. Ten bathrooms, I could shit all day.

Yeah, I'm the best to ever do it, bitch. And you the best at never doin' shit.

New! Little Boots - "Magical" "Love Kills" and "Not Now"

Two days ago, Little Boots released her debut album, “Hands“, in the UK and has already recieved good reviews and sales so far. For the US and Canada, she released her 3rd EP “Illuminations” instead, including 3 tracks not included in the debut album, paired along with “New In Town” and “Stuck On Repeat”. via Mossip.

Say hello to one of my (many) guilty pleasures. With that weird instrument of hers and the Kid Cudi cover, Lil' Boots stole my heart a while ago. I don't bump this on the regular, but I support Little Boots for sure and if you like pop music, you should check her out. If you don't listen to any pop music, c'mon, lighten up guy.

New! Clipse ft. Pharrell - "I'm Good"

Here's a new one off Til The Casket Drops, which is out in September. According to The Re-Up Gang's website, another song (hopefully better) will be dropping in the next few weeks. I love Clipse, but for me, putting them over a beat like this is like putting a pink sweater on a pit bull.

*Turns up "Kinda Like A Big Deal"*

Video! Kanye West vs. The Fray vs. The Police vs. 2Pac vs. The Black Eyed Peas

Here's a crazy video mashup with elements from Kanye, The Fray's acoustic cover of Kanye, The Police's "Message In A Bottle", 2Pac's "Dear Mama", and The Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" chopped into little pieces and pasted together. The results are surprisingly cohesive, although I could do without the BEP. I mean that in a general way, and it is applicable way beyond the scope of this song. The Black Eyed Peas make Earth a little less enjoyable for me.

Sidenote: But I would like to thank them for advertising on here. <3 you guys!

DJ Earworm - Heartless (In A Bottle)

New! Kid CuDi - "Mr. Solo Dolo"

Ok, I'm really posting this for 2 reasons: 1, I know a lot of ya'll like CuDi; 2, this mofo sampled my sh!t >> "The Traitor". Well, not really my ish, and of course he didn't sample it, the producer did, but you know what I mean!

Video! Cassie Ft. Diddy - "Must Be Love"

I'm kind of digging this song, but Cassie's hair cut is really bugging me out in this video. For some reason I can't help but to think of Harvey Dent.

New! Frank Ramz - "Make The Road By Walking" Snippet + Video

It's the second Friday in June, & today I have a snippet of the title track, "Make The Road By Walking", for you guys. You may recognize this beat for it is the original sample from Jay-Z's "Roc Boys". Since I'm not giving you the entire track, I decided to do another video. The beat chosen was given by Noods. Here it is:

BIRDY NAM NAM - THE PARACHUTE ENDING from Steve Scott on Vimeo.

Here's the visual from for French DJ's called Birdy Nam Nam for their cut called "The Parachute Ending". Here is what the director Steve Scott had to say about the video:

“Its a sci-fi adventure gone strangely wrong. Influenced by Planet Sauvage, bad 80s kids cartoons, Metal Hurlant, Nausicaa & Prog Rock album covers.”

Check out this remix done by Jaffison below.

N.A.S.A. feat. Amanda Blank, Sizzla & Lovefoxx -"A Volta" - video

New video from N.A.S.A.'s The Spirit Of Apollo, the most bloated star-studded record, despite its obnoxious cameo-heavy jump, there are a few brights spots.

Video! Röyksopp - "Eple" Post-It Stop Motion Animation Version

For his senior art project, Savannah College of Art and Design student Bang-Yao Liu has created a stop motion animation video set to Röyksopp's 2001 single "Eple." Liu uses Post-It notes as pixels to render the thoughts of a guy as he tries to get work done on his laptop. Yes, it's a MacBook pro, and that's tangentially appropriate since Apple licensed "Eple" for OS X Panther.
This clip entitled "Deadline" was first made as an animatic, and then the animatic was projected onto a wall as a template for sticking the Post-Its. Check out the making of:

Modest Mouse - "Guilty Cocker Spaniels"

"Guilty Cocker Spaniel" is the b-side from Modest Mouse's Satellite Skin limited-edition 7". "Satellite Skin" is the single from No One's First, a compilation of unreleased tracks and b-sides. Confusion put up a MySpace rip of "Satellite Skin" a few weeks ago, right after the band performed the song on Letterman. The two songs also appear on a promo CD, and here are the rips of both tracks:

Video! The Killers - "A Dustland Fairytale"

The Killers' new video for "A Dustland Fairytale" follows a loner as he remembers a crucial night in his past. There was a knife fight! And a girl! So it's easy to see why he's looking back on the late 50s/early 60s – while taking us along to revisit rockabilly hair and cars with faces. The "Rebel Without a Cause" era isn't the video's only retro touch point. The clip's present is actually the early 70s. It all takes place in classically American settings, and it feels like a road trip.
Anthony Mandler directed "A Dustland Fairytale," and here's a video with behind the scenes footage:

Honestly, I haven't watched it because I'm doing some stealth blogging right now, but I imagine it's cool. Plus, I'll throw up the mp3.

June 7th, 2009 - See You Later.

By the time this is posted, it will be tomorrow, so happy June 7th. Today is my birthday. It is also the first day of my summer job... my summer job that will probably allow me very little computer access and leave me way behind on new music. I should be able to get online once a day, but I'm not going to be able to blog like a coked up squirrel anymore (at least for 5 weeks).

So just wanted to do a little "see you later" post, and let you know what's going on in the weeks to come.

First of all, thank you to everyone who has been coming to P&P. Especially those of you who have made things interesting with your comments, emails, and (at times) cyber assaults. I absolutely love sharing music and talking about music with people who are just as passionate about it as me. I really appreciate all the love, and I hope you guys stick around for a while.

While I'm gone, I'll be leaving the blog in the hands of 4 people I've come to trust. I think together they form a really diverse (and cool as fuck) team that will be able to hold down Pigeons and Planes and cover the full P&P spectrum of music (from mainstream hip hop to indie rock). Some will be be posting more than others, but I hope you come to know each of them a little, because they are all interesting people, and they've been doing great things outside P&P for a while. Thank you Ramz, Fisha, Jon Jon, and Roni.

It's gonna be weird not posting, since music has been a big part of my daily life and I've become addicted to getting stuff as fresh as possible and sharing it, but I think taking a break will be a good thing, and I can breathe easy knowing that P&P isn't going to dry out and shrivel up while I'm gone. Hopefully I'll be able to get on from time to time and throw up a post, but if not, I'll see you later. Catch me on Twitter if you want to keep up with me over the summer.

Thanks again everyone.

Peace.
